Christmas is largely seen as a festive season and very much so to be true. We live in a time where Christmas is a celebration of what has happened, where the anticipation was met. This is the true purpose for Christmas, but through time, people have lost its meaning of that celebration and have thrown the real purpose out the door.
As Christians, we try to remind ourselves that it speaks of the birth of Jesus and we celebrate its arrival, and thus the arrival of hope and joy as it is commonly known. But this year I want to focus on one side of Christmas, I want to focus on the anticipation.
Through the recent years, I have come to find myself losing the spirit of Christmas. I say this meaning that I felt a lesser sense of celebration of the season as I grow older. Maybe because I was more captivated by the festivity than the reason behind it and when I grow up, the festivity soon becomes a facade and I begin to lose its joy in it.
In the anticipation of the Jews who are waiting for the prophecy, simply because they are seeking for a leader, a king to lead and save them. Regardless of their misconception of what kind of King they were expecting, but a King none the less. The cry for a Savior was ultimately met by the birth of one and then true joy could only be experience.
Find yourself in anticipation with me as we wait for the day to come. Just as the world did before and we are we now for the second time;
~My Deliverer~
Written by Rich Mullins
Performed by DC Talk
Joseph took his wife and child
And they went to Africa
To escape the rage of a deadly king
There along the banks of the Nile
They listened to the song
That the captive children used to sing
They were singing...
(chorus)
My Deliverer is coming
My Deliverer is standing by
Oh, my Deliverer is coming
My Deliverer is standing by
Through a dry and thirsty land
Water from the Kenyan heights
Pours itself out of Lake Sangra's
Broken heart, its broken heart
There in the Sahara winds
Moses heard the whole world cry
For the healing that would
Flow from God's own scars
I hear Moses singing
(repeat chorus)
He will never break his promise
He was written it upon the sky
My Deliverer is coming
Oh, my Deliverer is standing by
He'll come 'round
He'll come 'round some day
(Just like He said He would)
(repeat 2x)
I will never doubt His promise
Though I doubt my heart
Though I doubt my eyes
(repeat chorus)
Standing by, Oh He's standing by [5x]
Oh, Deliver me, deliver me
And they went to Africa
To escape the rage of a deadly king
There along the banks of the Nile
They listened to the song
That the captive children used to sing
They were singing...
(chorus)
My Deliverer is coming
My Deliverer is standing by
Oh, my Deliverer is coming
My Deliverer is standing by
Through a dry and thirsty land
Water from the Kenyan heights
Pours itself out of Lake Sangra's
Broken heart, its broken heart
There in the Sahara winds
Moses heard the whole world cry
For the healing that would
Flow from God's own scars
I hear Moses singing
(repeat chorus)
He will never break his promise
He was written it upon the sky
My Deliverer is coming
Oh, my Deliverer is standing by
He'll come 'round
He'll come 'round some day
(Just like He said He would)
(repeat 2x)
I will never doubt His promise
Though I doubt my heart
Though I doubt my eyes
(repeat chorus)
Standing by, Oh He's standing by [5x]
Oh, Deliver me, deliver me
