Hear, O Israel...
So starts; Jesus with this phrase, as one that has always been said in even before His time as he proceeds to tell the people the greatest commands...
Jesus urges us to find ourselves to love God, but not just as in any way but with our hearts, soul, mind and strength. He is asking us to love God with everything we have, with our emotions, our person, our thoughts and with our bodies. Nothing is kept for ourselves, nothing! Everything that makes our existence whether tangible or not, all is to be given to Him as our act of love to Him.
There is an understanding that even with all that is known, we sometimes fail to comprehend the giving of our everything to Him. This is because it is such a very vulnerable concept that for many is yet to be comfortable in anyway, even more so for those who do not even know how to own up to themselves as a person. The giving of all we have is such an underrated command in which we down-play with reasons and pragmatism. We will never come to fully understand the giving of ourselves when we do not understand who we are, and when we do not know who we are, we are confused to consciously know what are we giving up to Him.
I have witnessed many people who are able to dive into Him with no hesitation and faith that is crystal clear, yet to my own understanding I desire those convictions. Not that I do not have convictions but I sometimes find myself at a battle and learning to give in to it. Very often these are what other would consider as doubts and so I venture into understanding these doubts a little more.
What I learned is that God is calling us to be faithful to what we know. He is accounting us for the knowledge we have and when that knowledge is a clear conviction, we ought to do our best to act on it. So with everything I know and everything I have, I will give myself in limited understanding to Him and may he hear me even in my brokenness.
So then as I turn towards my neighbors, I too shall do the same of what I understand love is; the love that I comprehend that is to myself, I give that love to those around me.
