"The mature and well-balanced man, standing firmly with both feet on the earth, ho has never been lamed and broken an half-blinded by the scandal of life, is as such the existentially godless man. " - Karl Barth, The Epistles to the Romans
I wished that I knew about Karl Barth sooner...
There is a relentless pursuit to be better in life and in many ways it is a good thing to strive to be better but unfortunately it is not the most important thing to do in life. Nothing beats that fact that there is something else in life that needs a bigger attention before anything else. That thing is to be in the loving embrace of God and to allow grace to do its work.
Brokenness is essential to understand the span of God's grace for us. Under a sheltered life, there is little to experience the work of God in many ways but to live with the struggle of contentment.
I have long strive to be better for the sake of being better because the people around me expect me to and I have to be as an example but forgotten that I am doing all these for the sake of Him who has showered me with His grace and I need to do all these because of Him.
The church needs to be reminded about brokenness that leads to God's grace to be shown. Thus, brokenness is something to which we will spur for the pursuit for God even more.
